Best supporting actor on the British stage

Simon won for Biondello in the Royal Shakespeare Production of The Taming of the Shrew.
The Clarence Derwent award was established to honour actors playing supporting roles. Previous recipients have included Zoe Wanamaker, Ian McKellen, Judi Dench and Alan Bates.
The judges were theatre critics Benedict Nightingale, Michael Billington and Irving Wardle, theatre director Richard Digby Day, theatre and casting director Gillian Diamond, theatre producer Thelma Holt and president of Equity Harry Landis.
